Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Live as independently as you can

Supported Independent Living (SIL) helps those with a disability live as independently as possible, while building their skills.

SIL is a paid personal support, including helping you with personal care, cooking, cleaning and to assist with daily tasks. It is funded under your NDIS plan.

SIL is for people with a disability who have higher support needs and require help throughout the day seven (7) days a week. This includes overnight support.

If you have SIL included in your NDIS plan, you can get 24-hour day-to-day support with:

  • Assistance with household tasks like cooking and cleaning
  • Accessing social and community activities
  • Personal care
  • Travelling to and attending appointments and more
  • Residential tenancy agreement and rent is payable according to the NDIS SIL guidelines.

Supported Independent Living is only one of many support options

Whether you are living with other NDIS participants or independently, SIL is just one of many support options available to you. Alternatives, such as personal care supports or individualised living options, are considered if you currently live with non-participants.

There are different types of home and living supports available that are equipped to suit your needs. This includes:

  • Supported independent living
  • Individualised living options
  • Specialist disability accommodation
  • Short tern accommodation
  • Medium term accommodation
  • Personal care supports
  • home modifications
  • Younger people in residential aged care

Not only are friends and loved ones an important part of an individual’s support system, but the community can offer a sense of belonging, identity and purpose. Supporting people in their daily life as a member of the community can have a profound impact on an individual’s quality of life.

Circle of Hope offers a range of supported accommodation services, including Supported Independent Living, to help you improve your skills, so you can continue to live independently at home while doing more of the things you love.
